Though less well known than some of Florida's regions, Jacksonville and its surroundings have much to offer. Jacksonville was Florida's first holiday resort and nearby St. Augustine is America's oldest city. The St. Johns River dominates Jacksonville, and the Downtown area with its Riverwalk provides an area of fun, entertainment and riverside eating and drinking. Jacksonville is not short of nightlife. Mayport, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach and Ponta Vedra Beach make up what is now popularly known as Florida's First Coast. There are miles of beach providing sunbathing, watersports, fishing, and many excellent restaurants. Being a little further north and on the Atlantic Coast this is an excellent choice for the hot summer months. There are many attractions and historical sites to visit including the fascinating old Spanish town of St. Augustine. If you are looking for a holiday with plenty of interest and entertainment when you are not golfing then this could well be the area for you. |
